Released May 18th, 1993, Jazzmatazz Volume 1 is the debut solo studio album by hip hop recording artist Guru. The album combines a live jazz band performance with hip hop production and features from singers, rappers and musicians. The album made it to number 94 on the Billboard 200 and number 15 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums in the United States, however the album was placed on higher charts due to jazz being a lot more popular in Europe at the time.
Onyx's Slam Single Anniversary
Slam is the second single from Hip Hop group Onyx featured on their debut album Bacdafucup. It was released May 11th, 1993 by JMJ Records and Rush Associated Labels. Slam was Onyx's breakthrough single, making it to number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was the group's second straight single to make it to number 1 on the Hot Rap Singles for two weeks. Madvillian's Madvilliany Album Anniversary
Madvillainy is the only studio album by American hip hop duo Madvillain, consisting of MF Doom and producer Madlib. It was released on March 23, 2004. Madlib created most of the instrumentals during a trip to Brazil in his hotel room using minimal amounts of equipment. Fourteen months before the album was released, an unfinished demo version was stolen and leaked onto the internet. Frustrated, the duo stopped working on the album and returned to it only after they had released other solo projects.
Madvillainy achieved only moderate commercial success, however the album attracted attention from media outlets not usually covering hip hop music, including The New Yorker. Madvillainy received widespread critical acclaim for Madlib's production and MF Doom's lyricism.
